5V5 Futsal Developmental League
We had 91 players, from U7-U15, participate in our 5V5 Futsal Developmental League this winter!
As club staff, we were happy to see the players develop technically. More specifically, it was good to see players starting to recognize that it is a good thing to go backwards, if that's where the most space is because it helps teams keep possession of the ball; even if that means playing back to their goalie.
There were many players who were looking to be more skillful and it was nice to see this, knowing players/teams were not "penalized" with a goal or a loss, as no scores or standings were kept. This (not keeping score or records) was not done to diminish the idea that there's something to compete for. Rather, this concept was implemented to allow players to try new skills, tricks and take chances without feeling like they're letting themselves or the team down if/when they mess up. Mistakes are a good thing, and we need to make sure we remember it's a very important part of a player's development.
We hope to grow our numbers for the years to come and we as a club will continue to create various avenues and opportunities for any player to keep playing and developing if that's what they desire!

Winter Skills Training
We had a total of 82 players, from U9-U15, participate in our Winter Skills training this winter off-season! It was great to see players from all of our teams (Premier, United, Inferno and Rec players training in similar or the same training environment). Players of all ages participating worked on similar skills, but were encouraged to challenge themselves on an indiviudal level (i.e. If one player grasps a how to do a move or tehcnique quicker, than they need to look to do the move faster and get more repitition, while maintaining good technique. If they have also become comfortable and confident with diong a move or skill faster, than they need to do the same with their head up more often, using more of their peripheral vision, as opposed to focusing on the ball the entire time they're doing the skill at hand).
The Winter Skills sessions were a supplemental training opportunity for players to develop on an indiviudal level, to become more confident players. Devleopment is a process and takes time. We look forward to making this training opportunity available for you and more in the future years to come!
Larry Johnson lead the GK Winter Training on Thursdays. He worked with 14 goalies in all to help develop our young keepers into more confident and more technical players.
